Ryan Hong, 16, is a dedicated pianist from West Vancouver, Canada. He began his piano studies at the age of five with Susan Evans and has been studying with Dr. Wayne Weng since 2021, continually refining his artistry and deepening his connection to music.
Ryan has earned recognition in numerous competitions. At age seven, he was awarded the Gala Scholarship from the Pacific International Youth Music Festival, and at eight, performed as a soloist with the Lions Gate Sinfonia Orchestra. His participation in the Blue Ridge International Chamber Music Festival sparked a lasting passion for ensemble playing.
Most recently, Ryan received second place in the 2024 Canadian Music Festival Age 15 category, as well as first place in the Duo category. In 2025, he earned third place in the Senior Piano category at the Performing Arts BC Provincial Festival.
More than just pursuing accolades, Ryan is committed to using music to make a positive impact. He regularly performs at senior homes, community centers, and charity events in support of the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation. He also co-organized a benefit concert with his peers to help refugee musicians continue their musical education. As the VPS Student Ambassador, Ryan hopes to help build a more connected and compassionate community through the power of music.
