BIOGRAPHY
Frederick Chen, 12, began piano studies at five with his father, Dr. Xing Chen. He has received top prizes in major international competitions and made his orchestral debut in Tokyo in 2025 performing Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1. In 2026, he won Second Prize at the International Young Artist Concerto Competition and qualified for the Gina Bachauer Competition. Frederick currently studies with Prof. Steven Spooner at Peabody, and will join Juilliard Pre-College in 2026 under Prof. Yoheved Kaplinsky. He also competes nationally in alpine skiing and soccer, balancing rigorous musical training with academics and athletics.
