BIOGRAPHY
Evgenia Rabinovich is a Vancouver-based pianist, teacher, performer, and researcher. She is the co-founder and Artistic Director of RR Academy and a doctoral researcher at the University of British Columbia. As a soloist, Evgenia has performed across Canada, the United States, Europe, and China. In the 2021–2022 concert season, she gave 18 solo recitals, eight of which were sold out. From 2021 to 2022, she served on the Executive Board and as Social Media Chair of the Vancouver Westcoast Musical Society. In 2024, she conducted research at the University of British Columbia examining the relationship between deliberate practice and flow among high- achieving adolescent and young-adult pianists. In June 2025, she joined the Piano Advisory Committee of the Pacific International Youth Music Society.
Evgenia’s teaching experience spans both postsecondary institutions and her own private studio. From 2016 to 2019, she taught Secondary Piano at UBC, following teaching assistantships and tutoring roles in piano and theory at the Mannes School of Music (The New School) in New York from 2011 to 2015. Her expertise is regularly sought after as an adjudicator and visiting lecturer. In April 2023, she adjudicated the Vancouver Westcoast Music Society’s Scholarship Competition, and in 2024, the Pacific Youth International Music Competition.
Her commitment to music education and piano pedagogy has led to several guest lectures at UBC. In November 2023, she led a session for Professor Mark Anderson’s Piano Pedagogy class on effective practice and performance preparation. In 2024, she presented multiple lectures in Dr. Scott Goble’s EDCP 526 course, The Theory and Practice of Music Education, focusing on her research into flow and deliberate practice.
Evgenia is an honours graduate of the Mannes School of Music (BMUS, 2015) and the University of British Columbia (MMUS, 2017), where she is currently completing her doctoral degree. Her formative piano studies were shaped by Dr. Sasha Starcevich and Mannes Department Head Professor Pavlina Dokovska. She studied chamber music extensively with Professor Rena Sharon and the late pianist and critic Harris Goldsmith. A graduate of UBC’s University Transitions Program for Gifted Adolescents, Evgenia entered UBC at the age of 15, having received Early Entrance and the Major Entrance Scholarship. Her early academic focus included psychology and English rhetoric, while continuing private piano studies with Dr. Starcevich. Later mentors have included Dr. Sara Davis Buechner, Professor Miranda Wong, Professor Michelle Mares, and Professor Mark Anderson.
Her academic interests also extend to harmony, counterpoint, and music analysis. She completed her advanced studies at Mannes in Schenkerian analysis, harmony, and composition with Dr. Robert Cuckson and Professor David Loeb. Evgenia maintains a vibrant career as both pianist and educator. In addition to piano, she teaches theory, harmony, and music history.
