RECONCILIATION / SPAKWUS SLOLEM
On BC Day, Vancouver Piano Sessions marks the holiday with a free outdoor Reconciliation Session at Robson Square — a celebration of the living culture of the land on which this festival takes place. Spakwus Slolem, the Eagle Song Dancers of the Squamish Nation, perform songs, dances, and ceremonial traditions led by Elder S7aplek (Bob Baker), co-founder of the ensemble, residential school survivor, and a cultural practitioner who has carried his Nation's traditions from the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics to the Montreux Jazz Festival. VPS participants join with Western classical works performed in dialogue with the Eagle Song Dancers. All are welcome.
